The Why
With the popularity of online platforms Wattpad and TikTok’s BookTok trends, we are seeing sexual and graphic content within literature becoming increasingly more accessible to teens. This endangers children to the premature consumption of harmful and unhealthy representations of romantic relationships, sexual conduct, violence, and mental health. Rampage, a publishing brand, was conceptualised to critique the exposure of explicit, R-rated content to underage audiences.
The How
Rampage is a publishing brand that empowers underage audiences to read whatever the hell they want, whenever and wherever. The reading app offers a wide selection of the spiciest and raunchiest reads curated especially for young rebels. By positioning accessing mature content as an act of teen rebellion, Rampage targets teens and exaggerates the exploitation of youth curiosity, therefore emphasising its harmful impact. This call to “teen rebellion” is visually represented through Rampage’s bold, edgy, punk aesthetic. Mascots are equipped to normalise behaviours that are inappropriate for younger consumers, further demonstrating the harmful impacts.
